About

If you’ve stopped by to check this blog out, you may see pics of my family, you may hear about my work, you may have to deal with me talking about something I love, maybe a rant every once in a while and possibly some wisdom, but mostly just thoughts. I am a Creative Arts Pastor in Southern Oregon and I absolutely love what I do. I get to be who God created me to be and do that for a living and as ministry. I am very grateful. This blog has been a journey of practicing discipline and I hope to learn so much more through it and from you…the reader. Everything I write will be from my heart whether selfish or humble. Enjoy!

If your ever in my area, just want to say hello or have a condo in Hawaii I can use anytime for free.

  1. awwww! That’s a good picture! 🙂

  2. Hey!

Thanks for being the #2 referring site for TheWorshipCommunity.com this week!

  3. Fred – That’s awesome, let’s keep it going! I’ve enjoyed the reading so far and Adam is a genius.

  4. 4 tam

    yep, you’re still cute!

  5. Thanks 🙂 your not so bad yourself!

  6. Hey Brent, I remembered that you mentioned earlier that you had a tat. Check out this post by Buddy on Rev22:

    http://rev22.org/index.php/archives/92

By the way, I don’t like the picture. You’re too young. I can’t take you seriously any more. Tam is right, though, you are cute. And I do like the King Tut whiskers.

  7. Christian – just read the post, very cool.

BUT, do not have a tat. I would love one. Maybe someday. My Dad has a small one and he to this day regrets it and in my discussions with him, I promised I would not get one in his living years, out of respect. I will hold to that. I love my Dad!

So what kind of picture should I go with???

I’ll have to look through the archives.

  8. I like the shades myself. Mmh, I wonder who I was thinking of. It’s someone we’ve been chatting with but they said it on their own site. Any ideas? Anyway, I wouldn’t recommend getting one myself. Although I have been thinking about the possibility of having a tattoo done on the top of my head that would look like hair.

  9. Christian, I’d go with tattooed hair! My dad wears a toupee that is so obvious it might as well have a chin strap!

And I totally am goo-goo over Brents “About” pic! I use the same pic on my phone so I can see it even more when he calls 😉

what is a creative arts pastor?

  11. Hey Krislinatin. Thanks for stopping by. Basically I’m responsible for everything dealing with media and arts. So audio, video, lighting and music.

  12. 12 krislinatin

  14. 14 Heidi

I love finding new blogs. Yours included.
I’m going to add you too mine. Us Oregonians have to stay together. I’m from Tualatin. The Navy moved me to CA. Thanks for the prayers. Pray for the clean up too. Everyone will leave in a few days, but we will need to rebuild.

  15. We are praying for you Heidi. Please keep us informed on how it is all going.

  16. Hey there–been loving your comments over on Mandy’s blog so had to stop on by.

Since you’re a creative arts pastor, been having a discussion–should/can a worship leader (standing up front) be the administrative guy (behind the scenes) for all the creative arts(lighting, audio, video, scheduling, etc)? in other words–how does it work for your church? or…should they be separate? would love your input!

  17. Hey Rindy – Thanks so much for stopping by, make yourself at home!

GREAT Question. I fully believe they should be different positions. I actually think there should be 3…I’ll explain.

First of all, I have way too many hats. I cannot devote time to everything the way i would like. However, I will in no way allow there to be something done that is not thought through, but I know that things we have done could be better. Of course, many churches do not have the money or staffing power to make the dream of multiple positions a reality. There are seasons and we(Our church) are in one now.

Second, I see a great setup with 3 positions.
    1) The Worship Pastor or Arts Pastor. This person is the actual Pastor in this mix. They are the leader of the ministry and the visionary and the connection to the leadership of the church. This person would be the Pastor/manager of the teams.

    2) The Tech Director or manager. this person would be in charge of all technical needs with lighting, sound and video. this person would manage and schedule the tech teams. this person would train and enable their teams to do their jobs. this person would answer directly to the Worship/Arts Pastor.

    3) The worship Leader(s). this could be a person or multiple people. they would be responsible for the music teams, their training and their equipping. this person would answer directly to the Worship/Arts Pastor.

Obviously this is a very simple look at this. I actually have it all written out with job descriptions, but this gives you and idea.

So maybe, someday I will be able to be a part of a setup like this. right now it is a constant process of moving myself out of positions so that I can be freed to focus on others. it is also a management of what is necessary and what is not. Seeing the priorities and letting go of what is not essential. you can see how that would hold a ministry back, but I do have to say we are still moving forward.

    Thanks again for stopping by!

  18. thank you so much–I am printing this out and passing it on. trying to get some ideas from a few people and all the input helps!!

  19. Hey Brent – you’re linked over at my blog. Can I get a return link?

Rindy – check Nancy Beach’s blog. She’s been posting lately about those kinds of questions. http://nancybeach.typepad.com is her site.

  20. Chris – Welcome and absolutely.

And Rindy I would agree with Nancy’s thoughts. I’ve been reading them as well and they are similar to my heart.

  21. Yes! Nancy Beach’s comments are what started our whole conversation. And thank you both for your help!!

Do you have any contacts with Seattle churches? My friend’s 8 yr old is in seattle children’s hospital while dad and 3 sisters are back home in Alaska. They could use a friendly face. Thanks for any help you may have. Even if its just church phone numbers or something
